This is the Asus Zenbook Touch UX301LA-C4006H, this is not the absolute top model in the UX301 series. The C4006H version has a 1080p touch screen, 8GB RAM, 2x128GB RAID 0 SSD and an i7-4500U Haswell CPU with an integrated HD4400 graphics chip. Let's get into it, shall we? Why this model? am Last September I started a technical college training and a lot of back and forth as I travel, I had a need for a light notebook. Good stuff may cost you and soon I came to a high-end Haswell Ultrabook. However, there was a problem: it was early June and Haswell was yet to come out. When was the annual Computex trade show in Taiwan, there had to be a very nice new ASUS Zenbook see. Behind glass and named "Zenbook Infinity 'allowed a beautiful luxury device seen. After the exhibition could wait to start. As long as it can not still take, I thought to myself. Unfortunately, I do not know how it all went by ASUS and the communication line they followed, but it was silent a long time. After informing repeatedly calling and emailing Alternate.nl would have it in stock in early November. A few days later I had him in my house. Meanwhile, I had all the fragments of information (IFA Berlin trade fair, various hands-on programs and early reviews) already made to me, or so I was totally objective, I doubt it. After using the device for more than 4 months have I better form an independent opinion. Unboxing & First impressions Nice, after that crap then we can finally make the box and it was a pleasure to do. As a new owner you really get the idea that you have to deal with 'something special', in order to illustrate this better, I have added some photos. It started with a standard cardboard box, there was a black velvety box. Very unexpected, but it felt very luxurious to. This 2nd copy could be effortlessly opened, inside I was greeted by a shiny machine and cardboard cover. Behind I saw the accessories and cables:. A nice charger with a long cable, an Ethernet-to-USB cable, a VGA-to-DisplayPort adapter and a handy storage pouch at the bottom of the box I found the following: a very neat sleeve, manual, warranty information, and a spare strap for the charger. Then it was time to behold. Notebook itself Actually, you should just hold the UX301 and comprehensive study, a description will always do short of reality. The device feels tremendously well, a hackneyed metaphor, but I will omit here. Luxurious, elegant, sleek and modern come very close to a good description. So far my acquaintance with the UX301, time to a minute to start feeling him. Tooth Building Quality & Form Factor Maybe I left it just as hinted, but the build quality is exceptional. The bottom and sides of the housing are made of blue painted aluminum, while for the area around the touchpad and the keyboard a kind of 'ceramics' use. Caught between different edges rubber seams and everything is very nicely finished. The flap is just as ingenious together: the back is a record scratch-resistant 'Gorilla Glass 3', an underlying layer of blue brushed aluminum (with the famous Zenbook circular pattern), then the LCD screen itself, to end up with another album 'Gorilla then Glass 3 '. In addition to that it moves back, the valve also moves the device upwards. The rear edge of the screen functions as ie standard. Though the increase is very fine, it makes this design for two minor drawbacks: it creates a groove between the housing and the valve where dust can accumulate and on the outskirts are no rubber feet and 2 copies to the front offering often not enough resistance. It weighs about 1.3 kg, which is normal for a machine in this class. A small disadvantage is that the cover is fairly flexible, but that is due to the thickness of the whole. Screen & Touch Screen Quality The 1920x1080 IPS LCD panel creates a very pleasant picture quality. I do not have the means to measure all the way through it, but purely judging from my experience, I can conclude that all is well with the properties. The brightness is quite high, contrast is excellent and the colors look realistic. The 10-point touch screen works as you would expect from a modern Windows 8 Ultrabook: The touches are accurate and multi-touch gestures work very smoothly. Because of the touchscreen and Gorilla Glass layer, reflects the screen though. However, it struck me really well, only direct invasion of (sun) light can be annoying. 90% of time there is nothing to worry about and it works very nice. I'm late or touch sensitivity a useful addition in the middle. Personally, I use it in the Metro area and in things like Google Maps / Earth and Adobe Reader. However, in my model came suddenly a problem. About a third of the screen started 'artifacts' and burning phenomena exhibit. It seemed as if the pixels were damaged on this side or that a cable connection was broken. The screen is then replaced by ASUS and so far I have encountered no problems. Whether this is a 'bad luck gevalletje "I was just afraid to say, I'm certainly no similar problems encountered on the Internet. Touchpad & Keyboard Touchpad is a pleasure to work with. This is made of the same material as the ceramic glass surface around it, making it feel very pleasant. Multi-touch gestures such as scrolling with two fingers work perfectly. This is absolutely the best touchpad I've seen. At a laptop Keyboards on Ultrabooks were a few years ago, very bad. ASUS has also learned a lot and this applied to the UX301. The keys are large, have a clear 'pressure' and even from the corners geregisterd an action. Although they are very low, type it very much. Something that required a bit of getting used to it, was the location of the power button. This is because in the same row as the F-keys and the delete button, the power button also has the same shape. In the beginning it happened frequently that I pressed the power button instead of the delete button. The laptop goes into sleep mode when it is pressed again, the laptop in seconds ready for use again. After a few days, get used to it, but it remains a strange location. Connectivity The UX301 features an Intel Dual Band 7260 AC (& Bluetooth) network. This is the only component that can be easily replaced in the interior if in the future a version with 4G LTE true. There is native support for Wi-Fi 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and the new 802.11ac. In practice this works as you would expect, the range is above average and the speed is good. There is, however, Windows 8.1 or the driver for this card still a bug. When the laptop is removed from hibernation would very occur that can not connect a reboot then solves this. Hopefully Microsoft or Intel still fix this. terms of physical connections, the following were included: 2x USB3.0, mini HDMI, display port, SD card reader and a headphone jack. With the included adapters that expanded with VGA and Ethernet. In my view, this is more than sufficient for an Ultrabook. Software Unlike other manufacturers, ASUS delivers very little useless programs along. I only have a trial version of McAfee be removed, something that nowadays is actually kind city is a Windows computer. What ASUS or supplies power has actually useful: - ASUS Splendid: this is the color set temperature of the screen with it. - ASUS Live Update: Firmware updates are thus automatically taken inside. - ASUS Instant On: causes the laptop inside seconds comes from hibernation. - ASUS Audio Wizard : audio profiles can be adjusted accordingly. A little experimentation and there is, for laptop concepts, very good sound from two stereo speakers. - ASUS Power4 Gear Hybrid: . duration with an application to extend the battery The UX301 comes with Windows 8. Once all updates are installed, the Windows 8.1 update will be ready in the Windows Store. This process went without any problems. Battery Runtime Because the Intel Haswell chip is the battery life very well. With light use (Word, browsing, 80% brightness, etc) he is almost a whole day with it. Playing a 1080p movie with VLC Player at 80% brightness he likes more than 6 hours full. When we leave the inside as stress (Prime95, Furmark and maximum brightness) is the battery after just under two hours drained. When playing light games is to be expected. Comparable battery life In my eyes, these are great results, I am very satisfied with the working of the battery. Heat & Sound About the cooling is well thought out: under the keyboard are two fans at the bottom suck in cold air and warm air between the blow off groove along the screen. In normal use, they are often completely silent, as if they were from. With heavy use, and they're clearly there to hear. Mild buzz in silent spaces Personally worse I do not have the minimum noise of the fans, including the deportation of the heat goes without any hindrance. The aluminum base can, however, become hot, both heavy use and charging. The key, however, is not much warmer. Compared with other Ultrabooks, the UX301 cooling good for each other. Conclusion & Price The UX301 is a unique product and shows what an Ultrabook is capable. The unit is very well built, performs as expected and provides a unique user experience. Though the price is on the high side, I would still say it is worth this amount. For the rest potential future owner to make this assessment themselves. I hope that my experiences there with help
