Asus Zenbook UX31A-R4003V

I have the Asus Zenbook as one of the first in June purchased . He was ordered by a German shop, since he had to get there first.
These are the Metallic version Unboxing . When I got the very long slender box I startled a moment, this ultrabook really so wide? Not much later, the relief, the Ultrabook, nicely wrapped in a foil, not covered the box completely. Among the ultrabook is located a beautiful cover (which, because of its sleek shape and brown color nothing detract from the design of the ultrabook) with magnetic closure, very convenient to transport without scratches or dirt., the Zenbook Below is a guide, some advertising and a micro fiber cloth for the screen. In the second , the compartment of the box (besides the Zenbook) we get a second , the smaller case containing a mini-VGA to VGA and USB to LAN adapter. Moreover, we find the power adapter that is surprisingly small. The wire is thin and easy to bend. The adapter is integrated into the socket and therefore very portable, which is close to the ultrabook concept. Remark that the product key for Windows 7 on this adapter was stuck There are two variants of this UX31A-R4003 in circulation, the difference is in the SSD, there are SSDs ADATA SSDs and Sandisk. Those of ADATA (which is in my Zenbook) is faster than the Sandisk. This is unfortunately not the case, but you can see through system information (see photo). The Zenbook Prime - First Impression The Zenbook is a true feast for the eyes. The brushed metal casing in dark (top) and light (interior and bottom) feels very solid and sturdy, and bends by anything at reasonable pressure. The casing (except the display panel) is machined from one piece of aluminum. The sharp edges which exists in other reviews, I have not really noticed. Once we open the Zenbook (this is easy thanks to a handle at the top of the screen) greeted by a black (backlighted) keyboard and a very large touchpad. we Asus was smart enough to colors, although they were down there right away. Brightly colored stickers from Intel and Windows gray On the device, we find two USB3.0 aansluitungen, a micro-HDMI port, a mini VGA port and a SD / MMC slot (where the card can unfortunately not be fully retracted). Furthermore, a DC-IN for the AC adapter and a 3.5mm headphone jack (which would normally have to work as a microphone input but got the microphone in a forest AE2i not talking). For mini-VGA connector is a adaptertje included, this is not the case for the micro HDMI connector. The Zenbook has a 720p webcam and also a tiny LED (probably indicating whether or not the webcam is turned on). There is also next to the webcam microphone fitted. During the Zenbook Prime stereo speakers Bang & Olufsen were built. First use When starting first of the Zenbook Prime will be prompted to choose the desired language and country settings this language pack is used hereinafter the included Windows 7 Home Premium edition. When finally the new desktop, I am overwhelmed by a whole pack software. Asus provides its own software with it, including several manuals for the device and the touch pad, power management, encryption, face recognition, WebStorage and more. I also find a (McAfee trial) virus, a trial of Microsoft Office 2010, and a lot of paying games back. About an hour later I restart the PC (which is very soon going) removes to have after all was not desirable and Zenbook runs like a charm (even faster than it already was). The display these Zenbook Prime features a matt Full HD IPS LED screen. The IPS technology ensures that the screen is extremely good viewing angles without color loss, which always bothered me to my old Acer. Together watching a movie is a lot more fun because everyone can watch. The visibility is further improved by the matte coating on the screen, which goes completely against reflection and the Zenbook is still readable even in direct sunlight. The contrast of the Zenbook is also very good in my opinion. most prominent spec of the screen is probably the 1920x1080 resolution. This is much higher than the cheaper 13 and 15inch ultra, note-and netbooks that only have a resolution of 1366x768, better than the Macbook air and even better than its predecessor, but left a 1600x900 resolution recording (only the new Macbook Pro Retina of 15inch do better). The screen is indeed sharp. For the same reason Asus makes the text stand at 125% view. Something does not work well with all software and therefore better off (via the settings in the control panel). Other Hardware

Keyboard and Touchpad
The backlighted keyboard of this Zenbook Prime is really great for typing, a big improvement over the previous model. The keyboard has a number of useful (and frequently used by me) shortcuts to brightness of screen (or off screen) and keyboard, volume v / h sound, touchpad, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and Sleep to operate. The on / off button is also located in the keyboard, but is slightly stiffer than the rest of the keys to avoid. "By accident-click ' The power button also acts as a reset button, and when pressed in an Asus Windows menu again with different uitschakelmodi. The Wi-Fi/bluetooth-toets and the power button are both equipped with an LED that indicates whether the laptop / Sleep / turned off or Wi-Fi/Bluetooth is unmarked. The power led is even more placed on the right next to the gates.
Webcam and Microphone
The webcam has a 720p resolution, but performs worse than expected. Especially in less light conditions, the image enormous burden of noise. The LED light is too weak to give a noticeable difference. Here
microphone, provided that the noise reduction turned on in the settings of Realtek (default) reasonably pure. Without the noise canceling microphone is very disturbed. Unfortunately, the noise reduction for a reasonable 'visbokaalgeluid. Ensures
The speakers ( A demo of the speakers can be found in the video review )
The speakers from Bang & Olufsen make their reputation on, the sound is in the upper-mids and extremely bright and clear. The lower bass are better than we are in the average notebook. Did the Zenbook just to play next to a Sony Vaio notebook media and find the sound of the Zenbook even better.
Software and daily use
The UX31A always works like a charm, even with many programs that are open.
Pity is that the supplied antivirus McAfee lot of resources are used for real-time scanning and automatic scans. McAfee is normally only used but after a dozen warnings first month free, he remains now already 2 months work, weird but convenient.
Due to the fast SSD and i7 dual-core start Windows and programs in no time. I work with Adobe applications and starting over very quickly. The video review is incidentally the Zenbook created in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and was in 1080p, 25fps, H264/MP4 rendered in 1h and 47 minutes.
An important note that I have not found in other reviews, the battery mode. As soon as the plug is pulled out of the Zenbook, the Zenbook in battery mode and becomes significantly down clocked. I think it's the turbo mode of the i7 is being turned off. 1080p videos begin to falter badly and the overall response of the Zenbook slows somewhat. , the Zenbook is as stated firmly, but the bottom of the device has quite the curtsey not be. too scratch resistant This may also be due to my carelessness. The cover is extremely widely used and is very compact and user friendly. I like to take the Zenbook already on the train for some work on the go and that is a true pleasure. Reasonable load the Zenbook would already be a bit warmer at the bottom, but it remains acceptable. The fan is almost never clearly audible or disruptive (only when rendering video, he would still give some noise, but this is not too bad). Battery The battery in the Zenbook is good long time, I always TO GET between 3 and 4.5 hours with mixed use (videos, web surfing, email, photo editing). Skype and a browser It is always open to a large number of open tabs in the background. I am very pleased with this battery. Provided some adjustment to the settings of brightness and so more likely to be squeezed even more here. Charging is very fast at the Zenbook, an average of 1.5 hours in sleep mode or double when used during charging. When the latter occurs, the charger can be quite warm. Also useful is the notificatieled in the charger. Windows 8 It was not fun, but I succeeded, I have the 2nd partition of the device (the SSD ASUS already divided into two visible partitions, one for Windows (100GB) and programs and one empty (125GB)) usefully used to install the release. preview of Windows 8 (See video review for a small demo of Windows 8). Given the Zenbook not have the outdated BIOS, but ASUS has switched to EFI in combination with a GUID partition table (which is the startup time is very beneficial) Windows can not connect to a bootable flash drive or CD to be installed. Windows 8 images have a special EFI mode that allows installation anyway possible. For detailed instructions, you can leave a comment and I will write a short tutorial. Once installed Windows 8 runs extremely smooth and also the Windows 7 installation opstartijst beautiful in the new Windows 8 bootloader shown. The drivers of Windows 7 for Wi-fi, touchpad and working after manual installation perfectly on the Release Preview and so you can relax under the Release Preview functionality.
