Bay Trail tested: Atom get big muscles

Intel released the latest generation of Atom processors formally introduced in early September during his IDF event in San Francisco. Where Atom was regarded as third-class processor a bit in the past, the new generation has significantly better performance, yet energy efficient. These so-called Bay Trail generation would also mean big changes for the mobile sector. Atom tablets should be fuel efficient and powerful sanding and closer to Haswell tablets.

Moreover, Intel is the production process that Atom processors are no longer to follow one or two generations behind the high-end processors made; Atom should get cutting edge technology. A starting point for this new generation of Atom is the Bay Trail Series Atom socs. They are available in three versions, Bay Trail-M, T and D made successively for laptops, tablets and desktops.

Like the latest Haswell processors are Bay Trail Atoms baked at 22nm and they got their first out-of-order architecture with the Silver Mont architecture.
