Introduction
I was ready for another laptop. I had this HP Pavilion dv9760ed in February 2008 and have thus used more than three years. I wanted to play again on a portable device and another minimum requirement was a full HD display (1080p). I also wanted a very good processor in it with lots of memory. These requirements do not meet many laptops. It is very difficult to find that then also has a 1080p screen, like a laptop 15.6 "but fortunately I found my right laptop, the Asus N53SV. Featureset
The Asus N53SV-SZ016V has the following specifications:
Intel Core i7 "Sandy Bridge" 2630QM (quad-core, 4 cores, 8 threads @ 2,0 Ghz);
nVidia GT 540M graphics with NVIDIA Optimus switching;
6GB DDR3 @ 1333mhz memory;
1x 640GB 5400rpm HDD;
15.6 "screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution;
Gigabit LAN;
3x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0 (not tested);
HDMI port on the left side and VGA port on the left rear
Kensington Lock on the left rear
Power connector on the right rear instead of on the right side (for HP dv9760ed);
No ExpressCard 34/54 slot (I have the HP dv9760ed also never used so it is not a miss);
DVD-RAM burner (sorry it's not blu-ray player as the screen is 1080p);
Bang & Olufsen ICEpower laptop speakers (gives a very good equal unlike most standard laptops, although I must say that the Altec Lansing speakers and my previous HP dv9760ed were also not bad);
Wifi switch on the right side (I personally think what a weird place at the HP dv9760ed sat it on the front with an indicator light, this Asus has no indication other than Windows itself);
The CPU is very fast. Really fast. I'll tell you already that this CPU as a desktop i7 930 beats on stock, which is phenomenal! Since this is not a true gaming laptop, you may not have full HD high settings expect and it still runs smoothly, however, the GT 540M a good GPU to play a nice game (à la Dirt 2 and GRID) and that just 1366x786 play and what to play. using the AA I think it's a little unfortunate that the power connector on the back seat instead of one of the sides. In my previous laptop that was the case. I have, in fact rather to the side so that your example can just put on a small (short) table, the laptop down (at school they have these stupid tables with an edge up on the back). So the laptop has no ExpressCard 34 or 54 slot, but I do not experience as negative. My previous laptop, the HP dv9760ed did this, but when I had all that time never used. If there's anything I do connect it to USB. And with this laptop even on USB 3.0. It is a pity that only one port is not equal and all four. Probably this has to do again with a separate controller that diminishes the PCIe lanes. Then you have such a laptop with a 1080p screen. But the optical drive is not a blu-ray drive, what a miss! To be honest I do not really miss, because the DVD drive I use for Windows installation and install games. Movies come to me or via the torrents. , I had no idea what that ICEpower Bang & Olufsen was, but it hit the speaker quality of the laptop. On the product box Asus laptop was already on it to show off, so I had to try it anyway. My first reaction was, "Wow, wtf, that can come from a laptop?". It is really very good sound. Compared with the dv9760ed HP (where Altec Lansing speakers in it, and what in itself gives no bad sound) is the ICEpower the clear winner. There is really a top sound. There is actually bass, but do not expect too much. If the volume is full, the bass can sometimes crack, so that's a shame, but do not you think the bass, which actually can not be good in a laptop, the sound quality is really superb. New 11-10-2011 I I bought a jacket / SPDIF verloopje recently. This verloopje do you do in the headphone jack, and then make sure that the sound is set to digital output. It took the laptop actually uitstuurde the red optical light signal, but it is in a minute succeeded. The sound is now so using a Logitech Z-5500 and the signal is optically. That is definitely an improvement over analog, it is certainly noticeable! And then there is a tiny wifi switchje on the right side of the laptop. I personally think that a weird place. Also there is no indicator to what the dv9760ed HP did have and that I found very useful. The HP switch was just ahead. But the wifi switch is very sensitive, you gonna mess you're likely (at least, I have now experienced 3x) that wifi does not do it and that you should look for to make it work. Again the wifi drivers there is a separate on / off button for Asus Express Gate is present. That button is on the left and if you pressed when the notebook is off then the laptop will load a simple Linux environment you quickly as you can check email or anything on the internet. However, points to the internet (source?) Express Gate that is more efficient than Windows 7 itself, and so if you want to save your battery just go to Windows 7. Because those three seconds more (if you're using Hibernate) it is not worth it. Bouwkwaliteit At first, aluminum material on the back cover of the LCD screen and around the keyboard. It really feels a lot more solid than simple black plastic, and it looks a lot better too! I've had no problems with punches from the laptop or the like (thankfully) and that I love you so, but if it does happen, I think you're good. It feels very solid. However, what is very unfortunate, the plastic bezel around the LCD screen. If you apply to the plastic around the screen with your fingers lightly, feel the plastic to bend, and it seems like it is not directly attached to the screen itself. Actually, I do not bother myself here, because you need some specific pressure with your finger and a normal person would never do that. It also looks good, though. TouchPad is very large. A lot bigger than the dv9760ed while that's a 17 inch laptop. In my sense is nice if you do not have a smart mouse or just can not use (on your lap for example). However, the touchpad would sometimes let themselves are still operating. Stiff Maybe that's just my fingers (calluses by too many fields at Albert Heijn, hehe). I have my sister asked dr opinion and find that it does not go smoothly. However, the dv9760ed the ball does not matter if you have finger calluses or not, there was even the slightest movement fine. Outside of this, I find the touchpad works well nice, though I'd rather prefer obviously a real mouse. The feedback from the touchpad button (pen, it's a whole button, but the left is left-click and right is of course right click), however, is the best. If you've read previous reviews of this laptop here at tweakers you have read the keyboard sag in the middle. This is at the top, but to me it is not at all bad mate. When I read that the other reviewers, I thought it better not to buy this laptop but this piece far I've now tapped the N53SV and type it very pleasant. The dv9760ed had no space between the keys (ie an "old" laptop keyboard) and this laptop has though. That adds a lot more pleasant. You must be a bit harder prints you want the center of the keyboard in lower. So if you just type normally there is nothing to worry about. Stability of the laptop (the rubber feet, etc.) is sublime. In dv9760ed laptop would sometimes move themselves and this laptop is he standing stable and not slide off. performance CPU, the Intel Core i7 2630QM quad-core laptop has a very fast processor. To show how fast that actually is not, you have a picture, I have done several benchmarks on my laptop and on my computer that has a Core i7 930 (which is put or to keep it fair in stock so 2.8 Ghz 4 cores 8 threads). I can tell you that the 2630QM so at least as fast as the i7 930 and in some benchmarks, the 2630QM even marginally faster! Probably the 2630QM this is also mainly due to the aggressive turbo. On single core turbo he goes up to 2.9 Ghz. For dual core he goes up to 2.7 Ghz and if all four cores are used it going up to 2.5 Ghz. For comparison, see the benchmarks
