This is a great notebook, but it does have some downsides and very specific problems. The main problem is that terrible fan, even at 12.5 speed an awful sound! It has cost me just to fix it but it is well managed it! Hence this review so that others can use it. Moreover, I can only say this is a great notebook, almost an ultrabook for this price. He's pretty fast, but not really suitable for heavy work (the reason you see below). I've just got a Samsung 256 GB 840 Pro tucked. He now starts in 4-5 seconds (compared to 14 seconds with HDD), so that's a 'cold boot'! It is necessary that you do all unnecessary startup items (found via the task manager blurts out: otherwise you may add a few seconds) and is what I use noiseless him ... All in all: after a lot of problems at the beginning but so very satisfied. The pros more extensive: - not too expensive - construction: OK, he's a few mm thick ultrabook be allowed to be called, but who know the difference (or it may be what wschelen?) - good touchscreen : works really good. Amazing how often you are going to use that thing. I also use self-written programs and it is very easy to Visual Basic to build functions that. - fast if you are not too heavily loaded him - good keyboard: bends not through typing pretty good (backspace squeaked or the first week ) - very fast startup, even with the HDD (Win8 there are drawbacks, but it is delicious). But with the SSD (see above), it is just a dream! - nice little food - good sound: all the negative things about the noise from HDD and fan are here again positive: it can be very hard and I think it is for such a amazing little device - battery lasts about 4 hours, with everything in power savings nearly 5 hours: decide for yourself whether it is positive or not. Less than my previous, now broken, netbook, longer than any other laptops I've had. downsides with the explanation - that fan is really terrible! Do not believe what people say a bios update (I have now 207) helps, yes, the first five minutes if it's really cold, but then he goes on and stays on. Speedfan can not control. I had almost bought another computer: for most of the work does not bother me, but the fan when I read / review or write - which I bought it - so clearly did. I just could not think through not only hard but also very annoying. The metal case seems to reinforce. After a long search (through a German review I loved it), I found this tool: notebookfancontrol. See http://www.softpedia.com/...weak/ASUS-Fan-Xpert.shtml . Now you can simply turn off fan. Yes, zero so! And if you simply just writes or reads the temperature remains low and there is no problem (I put the screen at 30-40%, power options everything, CPU at 40%, flight mode on: also good for battery). Then you can see right that Asus has not smart set. - but the heat of this computer is not fantastic (I suspect that it matters whether you have a metal or plastic bottom): if you're going to do what he hits inexorably on. I do not think it's that bad anymore because he does it only for things I did not bother. - BUT: if you really want to use the processor then he goes nuts: he can not cool it and 'throttled' him. Then he goes to 40% of its assets and everything is Very Slow. Do not worry if you're just typing in Word, but yes, you were just doing something that more power early ... Even more annoying: do not think he switches back again when it is cooler. One time I managed to put it in sleep mode, but usually you have to restarting it ... All that is naturally fast: it should not. Let's be honest: if you just do what works office, email, Internet, what images or watching a video then it does not happen, but it's crazy: you never really use all the power of the processor. That he can make him responsive to the touch and pages load quickly and so. Quickly So it is suitable for specific use, but clearly not for all. - The display: that is not top. I think that's when you hand in this model and reasonable price get in return. Resolution is OK for this size, but clarity is not. I found that it was better if you go through the graphics driver gamma slightly aggressive move (eg see why Samsung is often so beautiful in the shop: but if you really going to use the brand that you are unrealistic aggressive - applies to their computers and televisions). In the shop next to another computer is crying, but if you use it just loose then it's all that bad. Surprise the videos: it seems so natural at this screen, just a very good television. Only with a lot of ambient light is difficult with the reflective screen. Are you planning to go outside counsel use than him, I just him. - trackpad: indeed, not fantastic. There are many stories on the net that it makes much difference if you download the elan driver samsung (for the 5 series). I've done it. The only difference I noticed was that you can not turn off the function key, which is a pain when typing it (palm recognition only works so modified your cursor will jump). So I picked him soon. - HDD: fine much space, but he does make very strange noises (also amplified by the cabinet). + Is the advantage of the speed of an SSD. There are many complex stories on just how complicated it is upgradeable, but I got the software from Samsung and it was effortless, even installing (and recognized equivalent). Only the D: partition was not easy: just reformat themselves and self transfer your data. If you buy another, note that he is 7 mm or more. Open bottom is pretty easy: all the screws out and then go with a credit card between the edge and thus unclip (the best start you back at the fan grill). - stalled once he is at all. Did nothing more, hard disk kept walking. I hope once!! Was much the same time to do it, but it should not. No further problems then restart or something. - oh yes, the wifi connection. Sometimes he falls away. Recover fairly quickly and usually goes well (he normally connects virtually instantaneously). I suspect it's because under "power options" the "savings" under wireless are just too high in profile on the battery ... I also have the impression that he is doing lately less (been many updates) but I think that I have yet to see further confirmed in practice. - loads slowly. That is of course much better for the battery, but not always convenient. Overall: perfect for special applications, but you should have some time up in advance whether he fits you. Does he do it then you have to pretty little money really something beautiful hands. Addition January 24, 2014 : Despite all the updates from the ASUS WiFi continues to do very bad. Sometimes he does it right and he continues to do it, but usually he falls away quickly. Turning back is sometimes easy, but increasingly difficult. I was totally crazy. A search on the Internet did not only have many similar stories, but also that it is not only Asus intel is: the card used exhibited this phenomenon apparently (Asus drowsy course they get a bad tuck). I have now espouse a WiFi dongle, and ever since I have not once had more problems, so it's not Windows or my router ...
