Acer TravelMate 663LMi (PM 1.6GHz, 512MB, 40GB, Combo, 15 "TFT, WXP Home)

I got my Acer Travelmate 663LMi since January 2004 in use. Consideration at that time played a part to buy this laptop were mainly performance and low power consumption of the Pentium M 1.6 GHz, the resolution (1400 x 1050px) of the screen and the sleek. Initially I was pretty happy with the laptop but now my opinion unfortunately become more negative. Featureset The Travelmate 663LMi has a moderate feature set. Only the speed of the processor (the 1.6 GHz model of the Pentium M was one of the fastest) and the resolution of the display stand out. The WLAN card is only 11Mbit and standard hard drives running at only 4200rpm. The flash card reader for me is as good as useless for lack of CompactFlash support. The DVD burner is a nice feature. This model has ingrained Intel graphics that you so not too much to expect. Since I will be the performance of the GPU me being a concern. Use the laptop for games Further noteworthy is the amount of memory of 512MB. Performance The processor performs certainly adequate. 512MB memory is a bit tight so that deserved an upgrade, I've already done. The standard hard drive is pretty slow. Replacement by a Toshiba MK4026GAX 5400rpm drive with 16MB cache produced a noticeable improvement in performance. The range of the WLAN card is moderate. I have this thing replaced by a Senao 802.11g Mini PCI card, however, which performs just as bad. With a Belkin 54Mbit PCMCIA adapter I have more success. Picture quality about the picture quality I'm bad to speak. The screen has a blue cast to the color ruined. Still ergelijker is the very moderate brightness of the screen. In an office environment with fluorescent light, the screen is difficult to read as the sun comes out. Outside there is nothing at all to begin with this laptop. Build quality and robustness The case is clear plastic and feels as such. Nothing has been lost or broken piece, so to that extent I am satisfied, but the quality perception is not overwhelming. The USB slots have much slack (maybe even better that they give a little). Ergonomics Something I'm talking about is the ergonomics of the keyboard. The attack is nice and I can use the keyboard well for a long time without getting RSI. The keys are placed apart by a somewhat circular line (positioned slightly to the outside at the outer sides of the keyboard, in the extension of the natural position of the hand). I hardly use the touchpad because I prefer a loose Logitech MX 510. Heat and noise , the heat and noise is excellent. The laptop shows itself in normal use (browsing, office work, etc.) and passive cooling is then barely warm. The standard 4200rpm hard drive does its work almost silently. Mobility The Travelmate 663LMi is portable thanks to his low weight and slim casing. The diet is also low weight and limited in scope. Unfortunately, I am very bad to talk about the battery life. The laptop is used intensively in the last year in which the battery was charged. Almost daily re- In recent months, the endurance of the battery drastically decreased. At present it has been holding for more than an hour of what is really so worthless. I do not know if this is an exemplary problem or something that is structurally occurs in these laptops. Price The Travelmate 663LMi is now discontinued. The price was called for a Pentium M 1.6 GHz with 1400 x 1050px screen and DVD burner. Well in early 2004 some 1,600 euros
