Ubuntu 9.04 is now a few months and I can highly recommend it! In April the hard drive replaced with a copy of 320GB (SSD was somewhat too pricey). Work 5 minutes. The original 80GB hard drive with Windows is now in the closet. Then installed ubuntu netbook remix. Actually, no sweat. I had some trouble with wireless using WPA2, but there is plenty of help online (internet worked immediately :-). Wired Everything else works out of the box (camera, 3G wireless, bluetooth, card reader). Battery life seems OK (never really measured). The special netbook interface of Ubuntu is fast and efficient. performance is pretty good. I even got netbeans 6.5 running. It's not as fast as my MBP with 6GB but still running but beautiful. Python IDLE and going like a train. I use the computer a lot to play divx and other types of video. Works fine - do not understand why people still buy portable DVD players uberhaupt dedicated. Conclusion: ubuntu goes perfectly with a netbook. [Update April 2009] Still very happy with EEE. Everything is working properly. Soon I'm going to throw in an SSD with Ubuntu, see if it is to get to work. Only downside I've discovered in recent times is that the charging of the battery is very slow (hours). In a vacation this irritating situation because you do not always have to hand over power, and should take advantage of every outlet. -------------------------- ----------- Original review Last August the EEE 1000H black bought in Australia. Last year I had been an original EEE with 7inch screen. This new EEE like better, and I would be my only computer (if it was not an Apple laptop that I use). EEE1000H is the ideal travel companion. The 80GB hard drive allows you to take. Lot of movies and music with you The processor is fast enough to play without any problems. Ripped DVD and DIVX Sound for music and movies fine. The lack of a DVD player is not me - I copy the whole thing over the network. The presence of three USB ports allows digital cameras and 3G modem can be connected easily. The 10inch screen is sharp and readable even in the car with a lot of sunlight. machine was shipped with XP SP3. This works OK, but I do have direct VLC, Winamp and IrfanView installed. The trackpad supports all scrolling functions. In practice, however, a mouse anyway useful if there is enough room for it. Only downside so far is that the fan is not quiet. I am here, however, accustomed. conclusion: an extremely portable, very cheap (I have converted to paid E350) and sufficiently fast computer. In recent months a lot. The extra size and weight compared 9inch EEE 901, I think it's worth it.
