Asus M51VA-AP013C

Summary:
The Asus M51VA is a pleasant laptop that much "bang for a buck" offers. The composite system consists of components which are composed deliver a good performance, and for its price range, this laptop for me a lot of elbow grease. It is only at the expense of a little more heat, sound, and a shorter lifespan. Introduction The Asus M51VA is my first laptop, and it is the second Tweaker Review I write. After years of working on my old PC (AMD Athlon 2000 system, Ubuntu Installation) I needed a laptop which I can carry on for at least five years, and I can use it as an all-round device that a good performance could supply. After thorough research (which Pricewatch was an indispensable element ) the choice was limited to three machines:

Asus M51VA-AP013C
Sony Vaio VGN-CR31Z / R
Toshiba Satellite A300-1iA
I ended up an excel-based trade-off of it: All features off against each other, giving scores and calculate a weighted average based on what features I liked the most. Asus won. Ordering, wait and unpacking the M51VA was delivered in a sturdy box-in-box packaging. The whole was wrapped tightly causing transport damage can be avoided.:)

Content:
The laptop itself
A Laptop Bag, black-green
A standard 6-cell Li-Ion Battery
A Simple, but good working optical mouse
A standard brick 90W power cord with grounded
All documentation and Asus recovery DVD
What small fry (like a lens cloth and a Velcro-twist tie)
All of you may be wondering what the point is of the latest little additions, for me, often it is the little things that make unpacking just what fun ... I call it service Appearance and Construction The cover is glossy black, with a gray dotted wave pattern. The Asus logo adorns chrome in the center of the valve. The disadvantage of such a glossy cover is that this one is filled in no time with fingers and tiny scratches. I have a month or so sustained to temper all the fingers off to polish with the included "cleaning cloth" but it's mopping with the tap. A definite weakness are the tabs on the hinges have to cover, the right cover is very off easily so the underlying wires become exposed. Conversely, it is not difficult to push back the cover. In place I think a drop of superglue can solve this problem quickly and easily. ---- edit: 13-6-2009 ---- The loose flap is a problem that is more common. An email to the help desk is enough charge to get a better fit. New --------:)

On top of the valve is the 1.3 megapixel camera, which provides a reasonable picture, the microphone and a light sensor that adjusts the screen brightness are on the amount of ambient light. This feature I find very pleasant, and works well. The keyboard is black, and the attack feels good. I think it is an absolute plus that despite the 15.4 "format Asus nevertheless a full numeric keypad has been able to squeeze without really compromising on the layout or size of the buttons. above the keyboard are the loudspeakers, the power button and function keys. The idea of Asus to provide a fine grid, the entire top may explain as design, but unfortunately such roster also a gathering of dust and junk. TouchPad is silver and is sufficiently sensitive and responds well. buttons are firm but not overly heavy. Between the buttons is the fingerprint scanner. Display and features The screen has barely backlight bleeding and has no ghosting. The viewing angle is good, just run the black tones fairly quickly so that dark scenes are less visible. Especially with movies is that a minus. resolution screen (1280 x 800) gives a nice sharp image, but had liked me more. Unlike the specifications of Asus , my laptop comes with a Blu-Ray DVD / RW combo. That's obviously a big plus. Too bad it is not just the software that the Asus laptop delivers, no Blu-Ray playback. Despite repeatedly complaining to the Asus helpdesk I was forced myself to buy. PowerDVD 8 Ultra I find the external connections logically. Especially practical is the USB 2.0 connector on the front, which is particularly helpful if you want to connect a USB stick. Quickly Achievements After my Athlon 2000, this system is obviously a relief, so maybe my image a little too positive. In any case, all applications quickly and without hesitation. Turning Playback of HD content runs smoothly (also known bird scene). I'm not familiar with performing benchmarks, and I can hardly explain or performance in absolute terms are good. PerformanceTest 7.0 benchmark is performing well, and comes with an overall performance rating of 814 to put up with. Because all specific values say little me, and because there are quite a lot, I will not drop here. Another "Figure of Merit" what I'm experiencing is the "Windows Experience Index", which is 4.8. I understand that this is a good score. Though the performances are really good is there anyway to put down one downside: The M51VA is equipped with 4 GB of internal memory, but has a Vista 32 bit system, so the last Gigabyte shame enough out of range.

Heat, Noise, and Battery Life
I think it can be said that this laptop has nice muscle under the hood. said with some justification But let all that violence of course also makes the heat and the fan all that heat must be disposed of. The laptop is small rubber feet, allowing plenty of air to the bottom is to perform. Cool air On lap is it all a little less and get the camera! Considerably warmer. A shelf underneath is a pleasant coolness of my thighs , the ventilator really let themselves heard and almost always runs at low speed. The noise is audible, but not annoying at "normal" windows and office use. Only if you are going to run simulations of solid games to play, then all those muscles need more cooling, and the fan will howl louder. For my experience never bothersome. 's battery life is only about 2.5 hours in normal use, but that does not surprise me much. The software settings that Asus supplies for battery management (Power4Gear) do not really have much effect on it. What I like is that the battery is easy to remove, and so that the laptop remains. zn own foot When I work on my laptop while it is plugged in, then I prefer to take out the battery to prolong life. Conclusion I am very happy with my first laptop purchase, and I'm pretty sure I was here in the coming years can move forward with it. Even though it is called, pleasant appearance, I think the glossy cover only fun if the laptop is new. Greasy fingers are inevitable and do away with all outward clean. That loose cover is a point of improvement. Die hiccups fade by the good performance I can get out of it. Thanks to the Blu-Ray player and a good display, this laptop unexpectedly lends itself well as a Media PC. That he does his description as "Multimedia Notebook" honor. The heat and noise to hear what I am concerned with the muscles, and I do not bothersome.
