Purchase
I was for my work (teaching) for a while to look for a good laptop. Because I know myself, I have not really looked at budget laptops. Not because of the speed that I need (speed, you can buy in the budget segment), but rather for its robustness and stability.
My requirements were briefly down to the following:
(Very) robust (enclosure, HDD, etc.);
Good performance (but not directly top-of-the-bill);
Good screen (no glossy stuff for me) with a good (read big and sharp) resolution;
Eye Candy (ie, not too trendy, rather timeless but nice and tight);
Enough connections (preferably including e-Sata);
Decent battery life;
Sufficient features (Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.);
at least 4 GB internal;
Must be at least a year or four-time.
Actually quickly came only two candidates to qualify me:. An Apple Macbook Pro 15 ", and the Lenovo W500
Apple appealed to me because of the design, the design and unsurpassed OS the most to the price, after I got the configuration to. My wish was made, however, spoke to me less, despite the 8% discount, which I received via Slim.nl. Apple brings nice stuff on the market, but asks for my opinion, but his customers in a most unseemly way if you need some makes adjustments, such as memory, larger HDD, matte screen, etc. I wonder if Apple would not address if they ask for their expansions. market prices just a much larger market share
via Lenovo SURFspot and Slim.nl always very sharp offered. Netherlands The laptops are over-priced, but for a relatively "normal" amount to purchase through SurfSpot and Slim.nl. The downside is that if you buy them here as well as the configuration as-is and you there still can change but very little addition, Lenovo's do not look (opinion, not a fact : P). For some advantage, but to me it is still something to Spartan.
I would have no problem stepping over it, would not come Slim.nl early November with a superb range are: HP EliteBook 8530p for € 1065, = a the machine in the shop between € 2,200 - € 2,500 does (note there are a lot of versions of the 8530p, that kind could care less in price).
HP EliteBook 8530p (FU459EA)
Basically everything I wanted was in the thing (with one exception, which I will return later). I took the plunge and placed an order, including a tether Kensington (you have to careful with your stuff) and a Logitech VX Nano (touchpads I find but so so).
Though the site was that it would take two weeks I had the laptop after a day or four at home. Sober; however do well packaged, adequately protected against shocks came with me to the computer box.
What's in the box
Everything I ordered was in the box, everything exactly as you want it ... a damaged box, no rattling, short, excellent.
was little less equated with the software. Slim.nl had MS Office suite promised, but did not give them (schande!!), Because it was a "mistake on the site." They are gambling that you start procedure, and indeed the cabbage (€ 17, =) not worth the suds (procedure costs and misery). The machine was still shipped with Vista, Win7 instead (it was right on the site, but you hope .....). That was after ordering, but that HP asks yet again € 25, = for, and then you have also a 32 bit version, because this machine is delivered with Vista Business 32 bit standard. Oddly enough there was (also) a Vista 64 bit disk in. Fortunately brings Slim.nl now Win Prof (64 bit) from which I can order again for € 17, = (Ultimate but I put on this machine and the Prof on my desktop).

Installation
According say HP is all preinstalled on the hard disk. Indeed, since in addition to the normal C drive partition still present with HP tools (900 MB), and HP Recovery (9 GB) present. One press of the button ensured that the system was completely installed. Only ..... it was a Vista Business 32-bit version, while the laptop comes standard with 4GB supplied 8) 7). There are discs for which you do not need, according to the inscription, because everything would be, with Vista 32 and 64 bit version on the disk (see pictures above). For automatic installation, I've never had the choice between the two OSs.
Automatic installation
Automatic installation
So the whole thing, but re-installed using the supplied disc. The system was quite upset afterwards. It scored nothing in performance index of Windows. Fortunately, there was also a disk with tools (the recovery DVD), where both 32 and 64 bit versions on it. After having installed all these devices without problems were recognized and optimized. Everything was within a few hours back up and running.
Probably I'm going there soon Win 7 up and make a better selection of the software that is provided by HP. Show that 92-over 100 processes running under Vista was still a shock .... ******* Update 12-01 - '10 ****** This weekend but then once the plunge and the entire disk (after I had burned the necessary DVDs ) but once formatted. As well as the HP-Tools and HP_Recovery thrown off, because I did not have anything more to under Win 7. However, similar to the conditions used to separate OS (incl.appl.) disk and data, so that I have some disk easier backups etc. can run. At the end the Win7 Ultimate 64 b drive it and went for a clean install (I'm not a fan of up-grades ). Installation is progressing well, and unlike Vista, you actually get a device after (to figure out which) a complete machine running in front of you. Further, the performance index discussed and that looks really different from the one that was played after Vista (when a performance index of around one!). __________ Appearance

Unfortunately does not yet provide Tweakers.net the ability to reason, but a loose reference to embed videos a video about the beauty of this laptop.
Tastes differ, but I think I may be. seen with this laptop Without falling into the fair, for example, Acer is so typical, this laptop has some pretty nice touches.
Left, the HP EliteBook 8530p, the right just as big Dell Latitude L120
No AirBook, but still slim.
Around the brushed aluminum keyboard is attached. The top of the laptop is also made up of this material. The whole looks very slim, what was once clear even from the picture with the old Dell Latitude, which is exactly the same for others.
Above the keyboard is a row of lights that below the pictures (well, screenshots of a PDF file , I say this just before you think I produce such blurry pictures : P). If these lights are touch switches that the item is to put it on or off, or to call. Only the Caps Lock and Num Lock are just lights. Too bad they have the principle here is not in effect.
, "the radio tower" you Wi-Fi and / or BT on or off. Unfortunately you can not choose one of the two (ie BT would have been handy). WiFi you via > network connections network center management just turn it off if you'd like to selective, but this is not so with BT. You can disable or PAN, but BT does so much more than that, and all that remains up and running. The only way is to do it through device manager which I find very cumbersome.
's Volume control works very nice. With a "key" can prohibit or allow all sound. By keeping between the plus and minus your finger, the sound is louder or quieter. A little confusing it is in the beginning, because intuitively you want about the zone sliding your finger, but that does not work .... you just stick your finger near the plus minus, until you have achieved. desired volume

A long list which clearly showing that it is a business computer. The GPU and size of HDD are left in 8530p (curiously called "dissolved" in 8530w, the workstation version of this notebook), but things are present. As 3G UMTS modem, ExpressCard reader, etc. The robustness (qv) is another proof of his "business character", as well as its relatively long battery life (at least the opportunity to do so) and last but not least, the multi bay. The multi-bay is equipped with a DVD drive (various sizes available) or a Blu-Ray drive. The specs can be seen that the 8530p is equipped. But this drive can also be replaced by a second HDD, which then as RAID 0, 1 or IRTT (qv) can be switched. Probably will reside going to find in the future a Kingston SSD in this bay : 9.
From my profession, I would not immediately all choose these options, but through the offer I have "only when taken."

The EliteBook is clearly a very different computer than the other series HP Pavilion. In this series, you get my feeling half the world for a song. There is the obvious costs go down. Factors in Real Business Laptop Business The machine is also reflected in the choice of HDD. A relatively expensive 7200 RPM drive belongs to the standard equipment of this machine. Too bad that the performance in my opinion quite a bit behind (see description HDD). The housing, design, screen, security, and useful tools, etc. etc. also contribute to the appearance of a business machine. HP claims:
Plenty of multi-layered security solutions help defend your network, applications and data.
But I think they are not the only ones that claim, but that attention has been paid in this laptop is obvious. webcam top of the screen is a 2 MP Webcam with Business Card Reader Software hear, which, according to the saying of HP Never forget a name, e-mail address or telephone number. I have not (yet) have no idea how you can talk to that software. The images generated by the webcam mi unmatched for a built-in webcam. If MSN look at the pictures of this webcam (even in very low light), I'm really impressed. The detailing is good, very little noise and the colors are both the shadow and on the exposed side well. At the moment the Webcam service does, goes above a light burning. Always handy if the government or a criminal unsolicited "passing through" unless they also like the light off . Media Card Reader Regarding the Media Card Reader into the specs include called an SD card, however, SDHC (which is mentioned normally separately) is nowhere to be find. So it seemed like a good idea to look if my ScanDisk III 4 GB would be. Recognized by the reader Extreme Thing in the laptop crumpled and yes same was the familiar Windows windowtje of what I wanted to. I could just read the disk. ScanDisk claims a speed of 30 Mbps, a speed that I've never met, because I do not have the proper equipment (so actually paid too much for too rapid a card that I (can not take full advantage of yet)). For those interested, they may review (which is hard to update to) here found. Yet again as HDTune Pro dug, however, was in vain, the trial period was over. Then just ordinary HDTune:
Scan Disk Extreme III
ScanDisk SDHC Extreme III 4GB
That was back to swallow. Glad that the card has been read, but how upsetting it reultaat max 1.8 MBps (at over 8 MBps when I connect it directly to my camera), a burst rate of only 2.6 MBps and a CPU usage of 47.9 %!!. The thing eats a core to complete. I thought that might be a limiting factor, but the process could really use both cores.
Remarkably, the creator apparently Ricoh (and not ScanDisk) and HDTune the card sees a 3 GB version, like Flash Memory (see review).
conclusion: nice that he reads SDHC in some cases, but still nice and go have a coffee if you want to get 4GB off. Clearly a gadget that can sometimes be useful, but that's really at. Bouwkwaliteit got a whole other dimension. Robustness with the advent of unicase, which include Apple uses, This combined with the fact that HP advertises one of aircraft structure derived and thrown in advertising with magnesium and aluminum alloys, was that my expectations were high. This movie on YouTube reinforced once again that feeling .. expectantly picked I computer. Mixed feelings overcame me. The screen is encased in a metal (aluminum) frame, although where you look at it really is plastic (some call it durable plastic, for me OK, but it is plastic ). Two very strong hinges ensure that the screen can be. Opened and folded This is quite heavy, so you do actually always need two hands. You then look at the keyboard, which is very stylistically on the front and the back features brushed aluminum. The keyboard is somewhat lower than in a bed, which is made of ..... plastic. The top of the keys are in exactly the same height as the aluminum "striping". Ergonomically designed very well. The rest is all plastic, as far as I can see, because I've spulletje (yet) screwed open. Does not alter the fact that the whole is a very solid and reliable impression. No crack, no bending, no you press (except the buttons then ) everything neatly in place and remains in that position. HP knows it beautiful to say (did I say never come up):
"Numerous reliability features such as HP Dura Case, HP DuraKeys, DuraFinish HP and HP 3D DriveGuard make this a durable device that has been tested and meets the military standard MIL-STD 810F for dust and low temperatures."
But one thing they probably back roads impressed when she performed that test and that is the DVD drive. At the moment you have a good DVD / CD in it, which is completely balanced, it is the epitome of calm (as far as it can with an optical drive). But mind if that is not the case, there is a rattling noise as you played that you have not even found in a laptop from € 300, =. He shakes and rattles like crazy, but it does its job properly. An RMA has that drive whatsoever as to land. It is not exemplary, because I had already read this in another review, but I can not find the review. He is removed or simply not to be found in Pricewatch. Try for fun to be found under the name "EliteBook". consider this laptop You will find most of his brothers and sisters, but unfortunately not ..... Overall, the build quality is it mustache, but ..... I would rather have seen a unicase, all of metal (titanium, to put HP on an idea first plane Boeing has already made thereby, so HP can continue to refer to the aerospace industry ). What I miss Yet I still miss some features on this computer. For this price, I had a Blu-Ray drive expected, instead of the beautiful but very noisy DVD drive with all its possibilities. Presence of VGA (for projectors, etc.) is nice, but a DVI connector (oh so easy to convert to VGA) had been. Much more welcome A strange choice in my opinion. Via the docking station's DVI be available again (therefore equal Dual-Link) ..... There is quite a nice quick e-Sata, a FW (but 400 instead of 800 Kbps) and HDMI available. DisplayPort is missing, although HP has been co. At the birth of this standard The choice of DisplayPort instead of a VGA connector, according to the community of DP actually much more sense for a business machine. On the other hand, it should also be stated that DisplayPort is not (yet) become what they had expected. See also, however a response from Ron.IT the new up-coming three USB DisplayLink video chip. Picture Quality The screen can I still often the major drawback of most laptops. In this context, I do so not at all to talk about what I think Netbooks. The "normal" laptops often have a resolution of 1366 x 768 or 1440 x 900 (which is still quite nice) set. That is in my opinion just too little (an opinion is). I have been in doubt about a 1900 x 1200 or 1680 x 1050. This computer has the latest resolution, and I think that's pretty enough. Sometimes I have to enlarge the text to 125% (IE defaults to 115%) to have it all. Easy readable But if it is necessary, I have good overview of this fantastic resolution, which for me photoshopping comes in handy. Besides, I can always connect an additional monitor is via HDMI and D-Sub (VGA). The GPU is then called a bottleneck. Order now from the standpoint of a business laptop is such a mediocre card stop can not find approval in my eyes (yes, yes, I can hear the comments already .. "it must be Outlook, Office, etc. can therefore it is enough .... ", well I do not!) think. The 8530w is a much better alternative (which I unfortunately could not choose). Another drawback of the current generation laptops have glossy screens, despite their beautiful bright colors. I do my hair barely comb, but when I do I like to do that for a mirror, not a laptop. Ie my screen must be measured. Unfortunately, even an old LCD (no LED) with all the disadvantages that, although there is not / hardly backlight bleeding can be observed. Below the screen is a light sensor built in, which can put. with the press of a button on or off, you However strange this is that the brightness spectrum with or without sensor enabled is very different. At this time of the year it will not work, even if you put the intensity at max, to retrieve the sensor is achieved without the brightness. I think that in itself is actually quite strange. I expected that the sensor would slide over the same range but with an off-set that is more intense (until the maximum is reached). As such, it is useful, although I usually have my screen is too dark and not contrasting enough find (too faint) with the sensor. But to save energy, I let him stand in that position, and then when I need to throw as much light yield. Sensor There is yet ever been a time when you contrast could also argue that button / positioning capability you must lack on this laptop anyway. Otherwise a fine flawless screen, where you hours can work without getting tired although it is always a shock when I get behind my desktop, which has the same resolution but a 20 "screen for use instead of 15.4." All in all I am very satisfied with the screen and the setting options. A higher resolution (like Lenovo) seems in retrospect a bit too much of a good thing. Sound quality Overall , the piece of electronics that is responsible for the fact that the computer sound can create and register is provided by a by SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio. provides Soundmax in a simple yet very effective console. On the screen shots to see the different possibilities. This kind speak for themselves, so that I will not go further discussed here.

The 8530p is provided with a dual-microphone array (stereo) which is arranged in the upper edge of the screen. Just above the two tabs (which the screen is locked) are tiny holes (1 mm diameter) behind microphones are placed. The quality of this microphone, I have not tested that will have to happen today or tomorrow. Oid on Skype I do not expect much of it. This might be completely unjustified, if you see what is currently provided for by quality mobile phones with the same kind of microphones. The construction does not need to be so complex it must in particular show the voice well and that is only a very limited part of the sound spectrum. Recordings in the concert I will never go there make it ....
A second possibility via a connector on the right side through a microphone plug. Whether all this works properly, I have no idea, nor do I still quite interesting.

at the front just around (below) the button to open the screen are two speakertjes posted. These things work perfectly as long as it comes to Windows sounds similar. To play music in a proper way, you will still need to take a good set of headphones that you can plug (not yet tried). In the side resorting
It (stereo) sound from the boxes can best be described as sound from a laptop. It lacks bass, has sharpness and just sounds empty. Well my demands on sound quite large, so the first laptop for me produces acceptable sound will still have to be made : P. The good side of the matter is that gaps can be filled and that I have purchased to service as loudspeakers do. No laptop Basically for me meet them excellent if you use them for the appropriate object (window sounds, the voice of the lady MS, chat, etc.). Ergonomics (Keyboard, Mice, Connections) Keyboard While I in another review (which I so can no longer find) I read that the keyboard feels very cheap, I share this view does not. Fortunately, the keyboard executed without numpad, so there is enough space between the keys inside. When the function keys, they have the 4 keys created an additional extension so you can find them. Buttons also very easy , the left has a large shift key while the Ctrl key is slightly smaller failed because there is still a place for the fn key had to be. ingeruimd The Enter key is unfortunately not the large type (or in the width, not height) with the result that sometimes a backslash in the picture get instead of the expected new rule. On the right you will find the control keys. A good solution in my opinion. The adjustment must be expressed in seconds, instead of minutes or hours. I could not wish for better. it in the keyboard "integrated" pad, a common but in my very poor solution. I think that as long as I know laptops and I never use it. Too On the picture you can see how it works. The keys are matte, with a little grainy profile and have a slight curve. Greasy fingers do not see it and it feels great. All in all, it works better than my old keyboard back on my desktop, a Logitech LX700 .
You know it all, even in summer on the terrace until late in the evening after Tweakers.net. How annoying is it when there is so little light that you can not see your keyboard. Especially for me, who still (and probably never will) can type, this is a decent source of annoyance.
The acclaimed (wrongly in my opinion) LED on the screen of a Lenovo also sits on this laptop. It's a silly little LED that produces light, but in dark environments still just enough to be able to see your keyboard. Unfortunately, HP has not chosen a backlit keyboard, which is much more pleasant mi. These lights can then be controlled by the light sensor that is nevertheless already present in the device. But no, HP has chosen the (much cheaper) LED. Better half an egg than an empty shell is then that which comes to mind. It works in any case.
KeyboardKeyboard ZonesMouse
Mice
Indeed, plural. The Lenovoïsten among us thought them as having any right to but this laptop is equipped with a tracker point and a touchpad. As an extra (?) You also have two rows of mouse buttons (2 x 3 so) that 2 and 2 are identical.
because I'm not on a laptop mouse, I like a Logitech VX Nano purchased but despite that I have not found my laptop mice, the proper settings I go unnoticed increasingly use the laptop mouse. Especially when you combine them (you can, but I'm not going to explain here), you appreciate more and more the mice. So I have to choose the luxury of three mice simultaneously O-).
Whilst there is no pad is present, the keyboard control keys a little to the left "shifted". the row However, this is hardly noticeable until you look at the touchpad, which is also off center. For good typers among us probably ideally situated. Unfortunately I do not belong to that group, and is therefore quite often next to the mouse. Instead of that I touch the mouse in the middle, I touch the right side. Lets just say that right side down the scrolling function. From experience I can say that scrolling is fast. Eventually I will still get used to it (I hope : P.)
The surface of the mouse also looks like aluminum with very fine-grained structure, so it is not too smooth, yet offers little resistance. Basically fine. The mouse click and give good today as usual programming. With various functions One drawback I find that HP has not chosen. Multi touchpad So, for example, zooming in and out, I will have to do. The old fashioned way Connections Above I have through various plates already a grand tour made regarding the connections. The vast majority of connections are left but what can be done (if they use an extra mouse). Difficult for left-handers in certain circumstances Actually, it's a bit of a mystery to me why a VGA connector on the back seat, while the HDMI and e-Sata are left. Probably this has to do with the functionality of any docking station. 's USB ports are nice round split (two on each side) and for me is more than enough (so far three max used simultaneously: Camera VX Nano and a USB stick ). FW had me the 800 version may be (due to any external HDD, would I get out of a soup and two fast connection (USB) \ to choose tasty). I think I will never use (too little profit compared to USB). FW-400 For the rest everything is neatly in place. Heat and sound in a word, just silent. The fan jumps hardly, unless you're in power, it is on by default. I have not found how I can put out. Those But even then, just to hear, which is absolutely not annoying. A light hum of the air intakes are called in an unhappy place if you take your laptop on your lap. As far as I can discern there is only one fan in (I really should screwing him ) and that fan sits right above your leg. The laptop is only lukewarm, but I do not think that good. So I've always shot him standing on a cutting plastic Ikea, which is exactly as wide as the laptop and it's really perfect. In that setup I will not have to worry that too little cooling would be me. To the various inlets and outlets to show I have included below a picture of the bottom of the device.

Mobility and battery life
As regards mobility, you should not be afraid of a few kilograms. By default, the laptop weighs 2.9 kg, which is not light, but not exceptionally heavy. There is only one knoepert a power supply (6.5A, 120 Watts) at which weighs another (including cables) a small 800 grams. The latter I have never seen mentioned anywhere assist the weight of a laptop while you do it almost always must carry with. For me it's not all such objections, but I can imagine that some people will snap off. Here on Windows Vista 64-bit, the battery about 3.5 hours (instead of the claimed 4.75 hours) . I then dim the screen stand with the environment sensor (saves a lot), Bluetooth and WiFi (full power) to. Win7 In the battery last longer appears properly. At the moment I have any figures, I will review up-dating. But for people with this battery life does not have enough HP has all sorts of arrangements to extend this time. way you several 8 cells (the default notebook comes with an 8 cell battery (73 watt / hour)) and (duurdere!) 6 cell battery purchase. Unfortunately, the capabilities of their site not listed. According to the specs are the following batteries available:
HP claims:

Communication with the outside world
, the outside world is accessible through: Intel 82567LM Gigabit network adapter that supports networks of 10 and 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps. Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN , the standards 802.11 a / b / g and the test version of a support . In my home (and school), he runs exclusively on 802.11g 54 Mbps. An N-Router is certain wishlist, but has still not reached the first place. The card does a good job, at least at school .... no problem (both with and without power) but at home (ICM Sitecom WL-153 Mimo XR Router ) he was constantly away and then build. reconnect his own This gave rise to take some irritation. Various power saving modes did not solve the problem. From the moment I put (including battery), the wireless connection at maximum performance the problem was gone. Actually you do not want this because you still want to save up energy when you're running on a laptop battery. Agere Systems HDA Modem . For many people who stay in South America and Africa, this connection is a blessing. But for us Westerners, this connector is already well behind us, although I can remember that this was the "fast" port out me good. Of course, a possible application is the old-fashioned fax, to the extent you have not arranged through your email or something. 3G UMTS means EV-DO/HSPA Mobile, which behind the battery SIM card can be placed. This connection I have not tried. Now I just connect my Nokia N95 with a USB cable or Blue thooth (even easier) to the computer and then I have the same effect . BlueTooth 2.0 is supported by the PC. I'm eager to use my Nokia to connect and so agenda items in Nokia Suite can enter it into my phone get ready to stand automatically. Outlook synchronization on the laptop and my desktop then make the affair all the way around. Other features of Bluetooth, I do not use because I find it or susceptible to interference (has nothing to do with this laptop, but is a real bias ...) or too slow. So PAN standard example is disabled. Achievements So far, the device is a blue hour used under Vista (32 bit). This I immediately replaced by Vista 64 bits, as described under "Installation" is read. . Real comparison between these two OS and I have not so under Vista 64 shows the performance index of the following values:

Not directly values that you think I let a minute get Crysis but from the shelf. Corresponding same (!) Systems (which happen all ran under XP) took 3DMark06 scores to 4000. Walk you still not warm, but it is significantly better. Maybe I got the thing a little too much boarded up with safeguards, or too much junk installed. I will still do the test again if I've installed. Win 7 (with less junk)
But you must remain as-is, this system is not built for business that focuses on 3DMark. But like any tweaker you would secretly still score high, against my better judgment. ******* Update 12-01 - '10 ******** As stated above, I have this weekend, but even plunge and the whole spulletje formatted, only to set up. a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate I then re-run 3DMark06, with the drivers installed (!) by Windows. The Meuk HP (except 3D DriveGuard) I have not yet installed, but the Nokia Suite, MS Office, Nikon Transfer, ViewNX and the fantastic FastPictureViewer (so I can see my RAW files (NEF) in explorer as tumbnail and simply can View without PS or ViewNX to boot). Afterwards a pity, because some of these programs are to be polled, so the performance is less again. The difference with the previous test is amazing. Mn my CPU scored far higher. This may have come from an artifact in the previous measurement, or (slightly more likely) by the gigantic herd placed on the CPU by the junk from HP. Anyway, I now have values that you would expect from a T9600 processor before.

Also might run a performance index under Win 7. Also, here are some notable things to observe. The HDD does not like under Vista behind. However, the GPU performs remarkably well. It even aims the speed of the memory over. Where the rams in Vista top scored, it is among the worst performing Win 7 item after the HDD. Probably explains Win 7 other criteria, because I really do not replace the memory : P.

I'm curious if these values are correct when I installed. Latest drivers (if any) from HP In itself, you can take off for a day there, if you see what you have to download from HP. That's not the speed at which I get in, my connection Ziggo is the limit (2 MB / s). ________________ HDD The laptop is equipped with a relatively expensive 7200 RPM 250 GB HDD. The disc should be slightly larger but on the other hand, this was not a breaking point for me because I'm going to put it. Movies or videos on the device For my photos, the space is more than enough, especially because there anyway to stay temporarily. Edgy I carried HD Tune out. This was quite a disappointment. My expectations were clearly higher than the "skinny" 50 Mbps (average) and an access time of 16.7 ms, which is provided by this drive. Of course the size of 2.5 "clear disadvantage to put down. Proper performance 50 Mbps But I really think too little. Many a disk with 5400 RPM also quotes this value when I saw that easily get 80 MBps Lenovo but honestly compels me to say that there are also what kept stabbing the same value. How much HP software (ie 3D DriveGuard for Encryption is inactive) to blame are, I do not know, but I do not expect that the role of meaning will play. Remarkably, the disk in another review it does much better (min: 43.5, max: 86.2, average: 68, Burst:. 73.1 MBps and AT: 16.1 ms). So whether it concerns an exemplary error .... I am at least never come within a range so there is a big difference to see. . I see it, the laptop comes with a different brand of HDD, strange ..... I thought only Dell conducted this type of practice. Very happy I am at least not with it.
Which it will immediately notice that the laptop controlling the HDDs is done by Intel Matrix Storage Manager. At first sight strange for a computer with a hard disk. However, this is cheating. The system supports ie RAID 0, 1 and IRRT (Intel Rapid Recover Technology). There are three options for a second drive there next to them (apart from the slow variations FW-400 and USB):
Through the e-Sata connector
By replacing an HDD DVD drive
Recording a HDD in the docking station.
Only option two is really suitable for RAID 0 and 1. The other two, or all three are better to be used in conjunction with RAID IRRT. This is an Intel-based variant of RAID 1, wherein the duplicate is to be put on-the-fly off and on. The second drive is hot-swappable so lends itself to an external drive via e-Sata or docking station.
3D DriveGuard provides some extra security to the primary disk. Unexpected movements (fall, but lugging the computer when it is turned on), the head is parked to go. Damaging the disc against Price The regular price of this laptop is very high. An amount that I would give. Never before from The amount that I paid for, however, is a real bargain. At the University of Twente , you can still go cheaper. There you have a better / good GPU (Nvidia Quadro FX 770M, 3DMark06 score of about 5000 vs 3300 for Intel) and a slightly larger HDD (320 instead of 250 GB, 7200 RPM both) for only a small € 900, =. Which version is not mentioned. Exactly the University It's a tough job to find out, because prices vary so with € 1000, = then you can go then enter the game of "spot the differences". Why is HP so many different versions with only minor modifications releases is my genuine mystery. The principle of Dell, a few basic models you can vary himself speaks to me more. Whether HP does not lose its systems to the paving or is too much to ask. But these are discounts you thinking. The Does not alter the fact that I have a heck of a machine for € 1065, =. Bundled software The computer comes with a whole toolbox of HP and Intel. Fortunately there are no trial version software like the infamous Norton and McAfee (although this on the site). If you let install the computer in the beginning itself then that whole junk on your computer go, whether you use it or not. However, you do an installation from the supplied disks, you must first install Windows, then you can install drivers and junk. You will then have the full choice of what you want on it. So you do not have days (and nights) tre spend deleting stuff that you do not want. Under Vista I have everything installed yet standing, but when I later on win7 on the go, I'll go make a choice. Though I initially was going, I'm not going to deal with the software (perhaps in an update later, but that is unlikely). I make an exception and that is the software for the fingerprint reader. Once you log in, you can choose a password or a fingerprint (smartcard can also if you have set). I have different fingers aside in case I want a user or log. Administrator Same finger 9terecht) rejected, but I have obviously briefly tested . To read the fingerprint is all pretty straight forward software. But if you do with logs takes first long (seconds or 5-10) before the program state (the fingerprint is simply not registered yet, while many other things already just work). If it's good right there is no problem, but if you sit with your hands just playing in water, for example, you can forget it, then your skin is so wrinkled that he does not recognize your fingerprint. That's all quite logical and acceptable (you can always switch to your password). But the strange thing comes now: if UAC comes up, you can also use your fingerprint. If you do that, and he is recognized, the screen remains dark certainly 20 seconds. If the system is still as wide police database to go through is that he has not really made a mistake. For clarity, the approval was already shooting. What is here the deeper background is I can only guess, but a good explanation I do not. Though I still use it a lot, because it's just what all goes better than typing a password. The waiting time I have been factored by then just to do other things.

long as you do not have the "human HP machine" of doing things, is the fantastic support. You can find it on the machine on the website. Absolutely everything Manuals, downloads (under various Os and, as long as it is Windows : OXP or newer, and from, .., hmmm could thus better) BIOS, all possible drivers. It's really extensive. Once you have found on the website of HP (minimum bachelors degree required) your way then you can find a wealth of information and business. It is even possible to register so you will be automatically notified when update is released. For your machine or your machine
Actually, that should not be, because HP also ax evert an update program which seeks out for you or up required -dates are available. However, I feel that this program does not work at all Jofel. The program gave namely that my machine was completely up to date, and I found two recent downloads on the site. If I spit, I'm sure I'll find more. Optional Accessories

So if you have too much money HP know what to do with it :). Conclusion Anyone who does not look at the penny for a laptop and looking for robustness, a beautiful design, a large amount of security and communication and (more than) sufficient speed, which should definitely put this laptop on his shortlist. Hear there is also a fast graphics card then you will go to the HP EliteBook 8530w should look. , the real die-hard gamers will however less fun to HP 8530p experience, just as those with a limited budget on shopping and much possible speed and capabilities are looking for. To have there are better alternatives on the market and need this laptop absolutely no glimpse worthy. The build quality, except the rattled DVD drive, is indisputable. A larger and faster disk would certainly have liked for this money, and a Blu-Ray standard equipment would not be out of place. For the price in the store this laptop would fall for me, but the places where it is available for considerably less money, this is an absolutely unbeatable alternative to the audience that I have outlined above. There are alternatives, each with its strengths and weaknesses, but one thing they all have in common. Whether you buy an HP EliteBook, an Apple Macbook Pro, Lenovo (fill in whatever), or ......., they are all expensive. Apparently robust design is always accompanied by a very hefty price tag. Would I recommend it: Yes, but not for the suggested retail price. Did I regret buying: No, not a second more!

Looking for a rock-solid laptop and you have a fat wallet, then this laptop worth considering. The laptop has a high class appearance, lovely design and is particularly aimed at the business market. This is apparent from include: its robustness, fast processor, communications (Gigabit Lan, 3G UMTS, WiFi (at / n), Bluetooth 2.0 and 59 K modem), smart card reader and media card reader. To the die-hard gamer and the budget buyer (lots of little), this laptop is not used.
The disk size, the speed of the drive and the video card did have a little to be. more / better A Blu-Ray drive, TV-out, DVI fast FW and you will not find on this laptop.

Purchase
I was for my work (teaching) for a while to look for a good laptop. Because I know myself, I have not really looked at budget laptops. Not because of the speed that I need (speed, you can buy in the budget segment), but rather for its robustness and stability.
My requirements were briefly down to the following:
(Very) robust (enclosure, HDD, etc.);
Good performance (but not directly top-of-the-bill);
Good screen (no glossy stuff for me) with a good (read big and sharp) resolution;
Eye Candy (ie, not too trendy, rather timeless but nice and tight);
Enough connections (preferably including e-Sata);
Decent battery life;
Sufficient features (Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.);
at least 4 GB internal;

When we walk out around the laptop We then perform the following connections to:

Look
at the front just around (below) the button to open the screen are two speakertjes posted.

HP claims:
Standard up to 4 hours and 45 minutes to 8 hours and 30 minutes with the HP Extended Life Battery and up to 10 hours and 45 minutes with the HP Ultra-Capacity Battery
This I immediately replaced by Vista 64 bits, as described under "Installation" is read. . Real comparison between these two OS and I have not so under Vista 64 shows the performance index of the following values:

a test on 3DMark06 yielded the following results:
Definition Score
Overall 3046
SM 2.0 1290
SM 3.0 1548
CPU 676
The much better values under Win 7 Ultimate 64 b
