MSI GX740-063NL

I purchased this laptop to replace my current desktop. The goal is to find both at work and at play games. Features: very good The processor is powerful enough. While working in a Windows 7 virtual machine, and simultaneously execute the office applications I have no performance problems encountered, everything went very smoothly. The amount of memory is more than enough (4GB), even for demanding applications. The hard disk is sufficiently large (500gb), and provisionally certainly fast enough. The amount of space on the screen is fine, with a resolution of 1680 * 1050 have certainly enough for daily use. Similarly, the expansion possibilities are numerous. On the left side of the laptop are compounds for telephone, Ethernet, USB and 2x. On the right is a CF reader hidden under the ExpressCard slot. Here are also the 4 audio connectors, a USB port and an E-SATA connection. At the back you'll find a VGA output and an HDMI port to connect. External displays to If optical drive is a DVD burner included. Moreover you get with this laptop a few extras : a backpack case to transport your laptop a "gaming grade" optical mouse, and an HDMI cable. A lot of features for a relatively modest price tag. Achievements: very well as video card , this laptop's Mobility Radeon HD 5870 . If you look at online ratings you see that it ranks very high. This was for me one of the main reasons for purchasing this laptop. The included processor is powerful enough ( Core i5 430M ). In the range of gaming / high performance laptops that do not belong to the highest class, but its use has shown that he still has plenty of punch. Do not forget that most laptops with faster processors (eg Core i7) quickly fall in higher price categories (1,400 to € 1,700). For the wireless connection is an 802.11n connection available, currently the fastest widely available version. Picture quality: moderately The resolution is in my opinion very good choice for a gaming laptop. As mentioned, 1680 * 1050 spacious enough for general use, and yet not overly high, so that the performance in games is not too hard to suffer. The brightness is not great, even on the brightest position in broad daylight the screen rather on the dull side. The viewing angle is also very limited, so you even when you're right there for all notes discoloration on the sides. Back positive news as we go ghosting look: it is almost nothing noticeable. The color is back on the moderate side, partly due to the limited brightness and viewing angle. Quality: enough I have not long, the device if it really is robust will be seen in the coming weeks / months. What is already noticed that the door of the DVD drive (on the right) rather loosely inserted into the device. Since you often raises the unit on the sides, it is possible that rapidly wear to come here. Ergonomics: enough The touchpad works well. The accompanying mouse buttons are slightly less convenient. Because of the way they are built into the laptop, they are not fully compressible: a central pivot point ensures that an area of the button is not pressed. On the keyboard , I have mixed feelings. The attack is good, a typical laptop keyboard. The highlights for gaming buttons are nice, but the keyboard itself is very busy. Some buttons are drawn smaller than normal (eg enteric right shift) and the arrow keys are crammed in at all, on the extreme right of the bottom two rows. The Fn key on the far left instead of CTRL state is not really convenient. An extra inches of space should not be a luxury. (There's a strip lost by the placement of the power button to the left of the keyboard) Heat and sound: moderate The laptop has fast warm. With this hardware specification is that something you might expect. UP Even in normal office use is a real chance that the fan starts. For now, the noise is not disturbing, I hope that after a year dust record the volume does not increase too much. The only heat exhaust that may be sitting on the right disturbing. People with limited desk surface will get hot mouse hands. The heat that comes out is not so hot that it can burn you. mobility and battery life: sufficient in the "energy", the battery about 2 hours with it. Given the size of the screen and the underlying hardware is not a bad performance. By "high performance" and continuous load I have not tested it on the laptop battery. The weight of the laptop is 2.7kg without adapter, and 3.6kg with. It is rather on the heavy side, but again, for a 17inch model is not an exceptional weight. Price: For a device with such hardware features and certainly not expensive. If it appears that the durability is flowing a must. Conclusion: In terms of performance, certainly one of the highlights, but in terms of ease of use rather mediocre. Looking for a desktop replacement for gaming on a budget around € 1,200, this is your machine.
