Asus M51SN-AP018C

I have an M51, but with slightly different specifications. I chose it anyway reviewing under this version of the M51, because most of it has gone here. I have my model at JB-Hifi taken in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia for AUS Dollar 1800, which translated is 1100 Euro. I have the m51 purchased because my 5920 deceased here and I guarantee only in Europe. What is different? He has the same specifications as the model as described in the price watch, but differs in the following points: I have an OEM version of Vista Ultimate got there (with recovery DVD). That is very simple converted to EN Edition (just a language package in tow through windows update). For storage, I have a 320GB WD 5400 rpm, which is divided into two standard partitions of 150 GB (+ hidden partition with OS revocery it). Instead of 3 GB RAM I have (unfortunately) 2 GB. Of course, that last is quite easy to convert to 4 GB, but I let the time being. As nice perks I: Internal TV tuner for analogue and DVB DVB antenna and connectors for coaxial (analog TV) MCE remote with USB receiver Mount cables to connect your TV to bag with mouse wipes to clean laptop First impression: A solid, no-nonsense appearance, but with quality finishes. A bit excessive to gloss parts, but oh well they deliver a cloth at. The cover on the outside is nicely finished. He is gloss black with a sort of gray wave it. It sounds a little weird, but it does give a stylish look to this laptop. Do you have the lid open with the button then falls flat at how beautiful he is finished. The frame of the screen is like the cover of glossy black nylon made. Below is a simple, yet sturdy design, keyboard (with numeric portion apartments). The frame of the keyboard is made of hezefde material used HP (feels like metal, but do not know whether it is metal). It feels fine and is like the lid decorated with a simple but stylish pattern. The touchpad is a little rougher than I am used to, but it is used (although I have a Logitech VX Revolution mouse for better work) properly. Above the keyboard are the speakers hidden under a grid of black metal. On the right are some small buttons for main functions and small indicator lights. It struck me, however, that I find the USB port placement is very weird. There are two on rear, one on the front of the card reader (right) and one on the right side. I mouse with the right, so the one on the right is just silly and placed on the front is now not really convenient. So I rely on the two at the back, what should be. Adequate for normal use On the left, the image outputs can be found just like the DVD burner back. The right rear for cooling and the connection to the mains supply. First start I had an hour-long installation expected with an awful lot of unnecessary software, such as Acer was the case! But it was just me! Windows starts smoothly and you just fill in your details for activation and you're just ready. The quantities of unwanted software are not available on my laptop. Yes there are some programs that are ASUS, but do not start it with the laptop. I only (sigh) link Norton but as hard a shift-delete gegven and Office Trial thundered off. Of course a mountain proggies downloaded, I like to take advantage (all legal mind you ). - CPU-Z (for details of the GPU) - Everest Home Edition (for details of the rest of the system) - RivaTuner with C2D plugin (useful for logging temps and loads) - AVG 8 virus (always handy) - OpenOffice for serious health typing - Argente Reg Cleaner (fine to use just to cleanse your registry quickly) - Klite codec pack (for media center everything stream) - SpyBot S & D (to counter any) Spyware also equal as a windows update thrown over it to make my Vista Dutch and what to download small extaatjes. SP1 I just left as it is, I'm here with a 256k line (with 5GB data limit) does not even bother to drag, who I do it in the Netherlands called Performance under light work First we looked at what the normal temps were surfing with some light work (incl msn and office in background). It looked fine, CPU'm hardly taxed and remains stable hang on a 34 degrees. The grafka I think its 60 Degrees with this kind of work, which is disappointing. The 9500GS would be contrary to the 8600GT, to develop properly. Less heat with this type of work I also have a 8600GT may use in an Acer and he came to light office work, never above 54 degrees. I just left it for what it is, maybe it's going to be. Optimized drivers laptopvideo2go.com better In addition, I also RivaTuner with the ability to overclock down on light work. GPU RAM memory increases during normal work up to 800 MB. There may still be said that when I turned off all unnecessary with msconfig and all vista "eye-candy" got off. I would prefer a well-organized display, so for me a classic theme (incl matching gray background tan!) Performance under heavy work Alike my dvdtjes there caught from COD4, NFS Pro Street and FEAR. Because I may like to play in my spare time. Installation progress smoothly, but there is noticeable between the Acer 5920 T7300 or T9300 from the M51, no difference probably because the HD to be the bottleneck. CPU-Z, RivaTuner started for temp logs. And huppa COD4! Settings on the highest put (was curious) and tried as first single. Yes, it ran pretty well, but after I got a stappie put back the AA it all runs smoothly. Now I notice a real difference between a 8600GT (albeit the 256mb DDR2) and 9500GS and you're just a little more power. On my 8600GT, I was on the highest settings with AA at 2x not play smoothly (even with custom drivers), purely because he lingered. Scenes with considerable A reasonable overclock the 8600GT spent there improvement, but is not as good as the 9500GS that I have now. mezzanine card so Good? Yeah, that's for sure, MAAARRRRR he is very hot! Where my 8600GT never rose above 90 degrees (even with an OC), is the 9500GS on peaks of 94 degrees! No overclock, no custom drivers .... just stock! He also remains stable after several hours, but the fan should be kind do best. I think the fan makes too much noise. He goes to a point from nothing to 100% and stops again after 5 minutes with (if weather is cooler). Here I will still be able to do something but I leave it for the time being equally so. After a par singleplayer levels, but equally HLSW game server browser geinstaleerd a few games multiplayer (from lvl 1 ) to play. There is a possibility for an FPS meter and a lagmeter (you need a crappy 256k line) in HSLW, so that I only turned on. Good server looks up with a ping of 60 (yeah, it is indeed outrageous, but there's nothing better). And still go. The course just like singleplayer fine and FPS meter gave an average of 40 at. Peak was in the 45 to 30 with depressions (pretty neat so) .... until my roomate came home and turned on his computer ...% & @ ... increases your ping to 400. NFS pro street just packed to see what there is to be gained. I've pretty much put everything on high, and the AA at 2x play that much better as the 8600GT. So you notice that 256 MB of additional memory is a relief for your system. Jobs run smoothly and the cars are driving. Better processor remains quiet while gaming. The temperature rises up to 60 degrees, and true 100% load is not really there. The 2GB of RAM seems sufficient for now, while gaming was the peak 1.7 GB (msn stood still in background) Performance with media ensure that this ASUS a real multimedia monster, I thought it would be a special cup. desirable Let me just start by spitting on the sound my bile, which is worthless compared to 5920! It is not impure, but huge tinny. And even if ej not really say that a subwoofer (small) in a laptop really makes a difference ...... yet it is actually true. My 5920 gives a much better sound, well suited to just listen to the output, a tune to watch movies or play games, but ASUS is not there best. And I think for a multimedia laptop, a thick bummer! A small subwoofertje or a better thought-speaker system, really had killed the laptop for me. The operation of the sound goes through the FN keys, I can be quite irritating. In games He wants those "terribly cute" animations show that if you have the volume up / down move, thus sometimes thus resulting in a stuttering game. Fortunately I have my trusted MM28 logitech speaker with me , that I use with this laptop. So I need to plug. While watching TV and movies no caps in my head Also, listening to music is fine with this cute little little speaker .... it is also one of my best ever aankoopen! But .... back to the laptop, before I digressed! There are also a lot of good things to say, so is the built-in TV tuner, very good! I can with the DVB antenna receiving an HD channel here, what's really gorgeous looks. Reception even in an apartment just fine. The remote control for media center is ge-dig. He is large and has a separate USB receiver, but works terribly well. The laptop works smoothly with media center and the remote is in the dark, perfect to serve. Illuminated keys I just do not understand why both the remote control unit and receiver are white? There is also a possibility to store the receiver and extend (the eye was provided). Using an IR eye screen is fine. The backlight bleeding is better if the scenes of 5920 series, but is still not you like it. For that you can better connect an external display via DVI because HDMI to miss the M51 unfortunately. However, there is the possibility of the sound from the headphones let you connect digital shared by sending a reciever. Why they have not chosen a HDMI interface, I do not know, but well ... it's the same thing. About the quality of the outputs I can not say that I have not tried everything. Wheezing without Bleutooth: He's doing really well and am very happy with it, but I notice something strange. On the front is a button for both WLAN and Bluetooth on or off. I do not get the point of this really, why would bleu tooth with wlan to be? In addition, under the FN buttons sits on a switch for WLAN, but not Bluetooth. But if that switch on the front is not on, you can not get wifi with the FN button. Oftwel bluetooth MUST according to the stock settings with bluetooth on. But Wifi could be off if Bluetooth is ... strange? So I cheerfully went to device manager and have blue tooth just put out comes a huge annoying beep from your laptop. Not out of the speaker, but somewhere in the PC. It's very high frequency, but I hear it with my ears fine. You put the blue tooth module again, then it's gone. ! Strange Conclusion: I use this baby for a few weeks now and I think it's a fun thing. He has his quirks. Temperature grafka and whine like the blue tooth is not on, but every laptop has something. For example, the Acer 5920G was not really given a star network connections and you pay for a comparable HP just way too much. Each product has its advantages and disadvantages. It just depends on what your requirements are, that indicates whether a laptop for you is of good quality. My requirements were: portable but powerful CPU and GPU, robust global support and no further bullshit ... ASUS meets there of. You get a lot and it looks fine, but a plebeian laptop, no that's not it. He is rather boring, but oh well ... then I look at least still tough! questions, suggestions ... and beer more, of course must be posted. I will attach pictures and even some temp / load logs. Spelling will undoubtedly stand between, but that's me. I will whole uploading pictures to finally be here reading on failures
